The Getaway PS3 (Not Cancelled)

The rummer mill has been rife these last few weeks with the the release of Killzone 2 yesterday. some blogs are reporting that The Getaway for PS3 project will be rejuvenated if Killzone 2 sells. So with the joint release of Killzone 2 and Halo Wars on the same day it will be interesting to see which one comes out on top.

Halo Wars Review

Bungie Studios has spent the last decade refining its winning formula for first-person shooter success with the Halo series. The epic sci-fi saga about humanity's battle for survival against the alien Covenant collective has now spanned three games on Microsoft's Xbox consoles, and that number will only grow in the years to come.

For the first time, a non-Bungie development studio has tried its hand at expanding the series in the form of Halo Wars, a real-time strategy game set in the universe popularized by the enigmatic Master Chief. And although Spartan warrior John-117 doesn't appear in the game, developer Ensemble Studios has otherwise closely followed Bungie's formula for success.

Halo has always been about intense bursts of run-and-gun gameplay with pretty graphics and a robust and addictive multiplayer component, all wrapped up in a compelling story. Rather than strike out on its own with an approach more akin to its wide-open Age of Empires series of real-time strategy games, Ensemble has stuck to the Bungie formula in Halo Wars. Missions are tightly designed, the action moves constantly forward, and momentum isn't bogged down with complex technology trees, multiple buildings and resource gathering operations. Because of this, Halo Wars serves almost as a "my-first-RTS" rather than as a Halo-ization of more traditional strategy offerings like AoE, Starcraft and Command & Conquer

Due to the games pick up and play ability in skirmish mode, the unique user interface system that Ensemble have created and the potential for sum amazing DLC im rating this game 8.8 out of 10

Like Films...Got A Xbox ?

Microsoft has announced a deal with NBC Universal that will see 30 classic film titles brought to the Xbox Live Marketplace across Europe, including Shaun of the Dead, The Fast and the Furious, and The Bourne Supremacy.

The titles, available now in the UK and Ireland, and in the next few weeks in France, Germany and Spain, will complement the existing offerings from Warner Bros and Paramount.

"NBC Universal has a fantastic reputation in the film world and have some true blockbusters in their portfolio," said David Gosen, VP of marketing for Xbox Europe. "We are delighted to be working with them to bring major titles from Universal Pictures into Xbox Live living rooms - this is all part of our ongoing strategy to make Xbox a major entertainment hub.

"This agreement makes the Xbox Live film offering bigger and better than ever. For Xbox, we want to ensure that we have the best entertainment content available - Xbox Live has grown into one of Europe's largest providers of on-demand high-definition movies and we’ll continue to grow the content offered through the service.

Microsoft working on fix for Gamertag issue

Microsoft has announced that it is working on a solution to fix the expired email problem that's been preventing users from renewing their Gold membership to Xbox Live.

In a statement issued by Larry Hryb (aka Major Nelson t0 360 fans), in response to a story that has been circulating the internet . It has emerged that a gamer's achievement points can be recovered from an expired account, as long as they still remain on the Xbox 360's hard drive.

Previous advice from Microsoft customer support had recommended that the only solution to the issue was for a user to start afresh with a new Gamertag, explaining that achievements and friends lists weren't transferable.

But now the corporation is working on a solution that will enable users to link their Gamertags to new Windows Live IDs should their existing one become dormant through inactivity, meaning users will therefore not need to set up a new Gamertag.

The full message from Major Nelson is reprinted below:

"Windows Live IDs and Gamertags

I want to take a moment to talk about Windows LIVE IDs and Gamertags. Recently, there have been a few stories about Gamertags becoming unrecoverable. I want to set the record straight, and let you know what is going on, and what we’re doing about it.

What happens:

In the rare case that you DO NOT sign in to Xbox.com or another website that uses Windows LIVE ID (like Hotmail) it is possible that your Windows LIVE ID expires (goes dormant.)

An Xbox LIVE Gamertag is unrecoverable from the system only when the associated Windows Live ID has become dormant and the Gamertag has been deleted from all Xbox 360 consoles.

Members with dormant Windows Live IDs can continue to enjoy the benefits of their Xbox LIVE Gamertags on their Xbox 360 consoles, including earning Achievements; however, they will not be able to use their expired Windows Live IDs for activities such as account management on Xbox.com.

It is important to note that an Xbox LIVE Gamertag is unrecoverable from the system only when the associated Windows Live ID has become dormant and the Gamertag has been deleted from all Xbox 360 consoles.

What you can do to prevent having any problems:

We recommend that people log into their Windows Live ID on Xbox.com or Xbox LIVE Marketplace on the Web at least once every four months.

What we're doing:

We are actively working on an update that will allow you to link your Gamertag to a new Windows Live ID if one becomes dormant.

If anyone should have an issue regarding their Xbox 360 or Xbox LIVE account should visit xbox.com/support so we can assist you."

***Nintendo DSi*** Will it be the most popular handheld ever?

HMV's senior games buyer, Toby Burton, has welcomed the announcement of the DSi's April release date, saying "it couldn't have come at a better time for us."

Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Burton said that the retailer expects a large footfall during the Easter period and the DSi had already brought in "substantial pre-orders", as the retailer ramps up operations to prepare for escalating demand over the weekend.

"Great news from Nintendo," Burton said. "HMV has a massive footfall over the Easter period so this couldn't have come at a better time for us."

"We're all really excited about what we can do with this product in store and are working closely with Nintendo on some great launch day plans. The price will sit very well with consumers, and we'll be communicating the key benefits of the DSi to our customers to reinforce the excellent value of this product."

He explained that consumer demand was already present for the new handheld, and that it was set to expand over the weekend as news of the release date and price spread.

"Interest has been massive, and we're already taking substantial pre-orders in store and through our website," he revealed.

"As product awareness increases over the weekend we have everything needed in store to engage consumer interest and get the pre-orders ringing through the tills."

While Nintendo still plans to sell the DS alongside the newer DSi, Burton says there is a clear market for both models.

"I think the price difference is enough to really give the consumer two clear options when deciding on purchasing a console," he said, adding: "and those that want the core gaming experience but are worried about spending too much money will still come out and pick up the DS Lite as it represents excellent value for money."

"The DSi will instantly appeal to gamers and those looking to upgrade, and I think the excellent new features will really justify to consumers who are buying a DS for the first time that the DSi is well worth the money."
